This is the ultimate travel bag. It doubles as a scarf and lightweight purse. This scarf bag is made from Lao silk and dyed naturally dyed before being intricately woven by women weavers and sewn into wearable art in Laos. Each corner of the scarf is neatly tied around round handles made with our signature metal. The handles are the extra large size bangle.
Comes with directions on how to tie scarf onto handles.
When untied from the handles, the square scarf can be worn around the neck, on the head, and as an emergency cover for bare shoulders or face. The scarf comes in three variations.
The backstory on our textiles: Founder, Elizabeth Suda, was lured to the landlocked country by the natural dyes and handloom weaving she read about. While living there, she witnessed expert women weavers masterfully making natural dyes from leaves, mud, insect resin, and seeds and then weaving them into exquisite skirts they wear everyday.
Textiles are a language and living visual artform in Laos. Sustainable fashion, it turns out, is not a new concept at all. It is a way of life that endures in heritage craft.
Each piece gives back to support traditional Laotian artisan livelihoods, village development, community endeavors and further de-mining efforts.
Your purchase contributes to MAG (Mines Advisory Group) to safely & expertly clear some of the 80 million unexploded bombs contaminating land in Laos.
